Trips start at the shop on Main Street in Montrose unless something else is arranged in advance, which keeps the logistics simple on a river that runs through the middle of town. Two formats are sold. The float is fished from a raft, anglers casting directly from the boat as it moves down the river, and runs four to six hours; the walk-and-wade full day is about eight hours and covers water up through Ridgway State Park and beyond. Rainbow and brown trout are the target, and the walk-and-wade water is explicitly catch and release. What comes with the trip differs between the two: the float includes terminal tackle – leader, tippet and flies – but no lunch, while the full-day wade trip provides terminal tackle and a lunch the guide prepares. Rods, reels, waders and boots are not included on either, though the shop rents them. Seasons and hatches are not set out on the trip pages.
