Fly Fishing Outfitters
Avon, Colorado · Fishes Roaring Fork River
On the Roaring Fork the outfitter splits the river in two. Above Carbondale it fishes as wade water and raft float water; from Carbondale down to Glenwood Springs it becomes primarily drift boat country with pockets worth wading, and float fishing is what the shop recommends from the Basalt and Carbondale area downstream. The river runs from above Aspen through Basalt, where the Frying Pan comes in and lifts the flow, to Glenwood Springs where it joins the Colorado, and public access is described as excellent along that whole length. Brown and rainbow trout are the mainstay, with cutthroat showing near Glenwood Springs. Trips are sold as three quarter day and full day outings. Green drakes come early in July; September brings hoppers, beetles, ants and larger attractor dries, and baetis hatches are tracked as well, with nymphs, dries and streamers all in the rotation.
