Heads Up Fly Fishing
Durango, Colorado · Fishes Animas River
Three distinct reaches of the Animas are fished. Above Durango the river slows and meanders through oxbows, in town it runs faster through the middle of the city, and below town it opens out again. Both float days and wade days are sold. The wade menu is priced by length: four hours at four hundred and ninety-five dollars, six hours at five hundred and fifty-five and eight hours at six hundred and twenty-five, with an evening Magic Hour session from six until half past eight at four hundred and eighty-five to five hundred and thirty-five. Float prices are quoted against an availability check rather than published outright. Rainbow, brown and cuttbow trout are the fish. Midges, caddis and mayflies carry the year with some stoneflies through it, and the river is guided in all twelve months. Guide services and gear are included; fishing licences and gratuities are not.
