Newry, Maine · Fishes Aroostook River
Mahoosuc Guide Service’s Aroostook River trip is a five-day canoe-based fly fishing expedition on the river’s headwaters, which the company calls an excellent native brook trout and land-locked salmon fishery. Guests meet at a motel in Medway and are driven by van to a cabin on Munsungan Stream; the party then puts in just below Munsungan Falls and fishes roughly seven miles back down to the cabin, works the Class 1+ rips down to Libby’s cabin at the confluence of Millinocket and Munsungan streams, poles up Millinocket Stream to Devil’s Elbow, and finishes past Mooseleuk Stream to a midday take-out at La Pomkeag Stream. June water temperatures are described as giving plenty of action with frequent hatches. It is primarily wade water with a few places better cast from the canoe, the guide-to-angler ratio is one to two, and the price covers all food, paddling gear, dry bags and transport from Medway; anglers bring their own rods and a Maine licence. The 2026 departure is listed at $2,000.
