Matt Halseth Guide Service
Aumsville, Oregon · Fishes South Santiam River
Matt Halseth fishes the South Fork Santiam for summer steelhead, working salmon eggs under a bobber and bobber-dogging them through fish spread up the river as far as Mill City, and turning to hardware when the eggs go quiet. In June 2026 he reported having already landed more steelhead that season than in the whole of the year before. The river fishes best when flows drop below 3,000 cubic feet per second, and the gauge at Waterloo is the one to watch. Days here run about eight hours and are sold as a small-river salmon and steelhead trip, with all bait, tackle and safety equipment provided; guests bring their own food and drink.
