Mile High Angler
Shawnee, Colorado · Fishes South Platte River
Mile High Angler guides wade trips through the South Platte system west of Denver, moving between sections as flows and seasons dictate. Cheesman Canyon calls for a real hike in and rewards nymphing and sight fishing on water the operation rates among the hardest in the West. Deckers, roughly fifty minutes from Denver, wades easily with parking along the river and suits anglers new to the sport. The Dream Stream is a three-mile run in South Park between Spinney Mountain and Elevenmile reservoirs, fishable through the year, and Elevenmile Canyon, Waterton Canyon and the North Fork add more options. The Middle Fork is a small meadow stream threading the Mosquito Range where trout over twenty inches have come out. February into April fishes midges and blue winged olives against spawning runs, summer brings caddis, stoneflies, pale morning duns, green drakes, tricos and terrestrials, and fall turns on brown trout migrations and kokanee moving into the Dream Stream.
