Square Tail Anglers
South Deerfield, Massachusetts · Fishes Deerfield River, Swift River
Square Tail Anglers has guided out of South Deerfield in Franklin County since 2010, running drift boat floats on the Deerfield, Millers and Swift rivers and wade trips on the Nissitissit and Squannacook. Jonathan Bunker leads the operation with additional guides on staff. On the Deerfield the boats work riffles, slick runs, pocket water and deep pools, including two catch and release stretches that each run better than two miles. The Swift is treated separately as the only true tailwater in the state, fed out of the Quabbin Reservoir, with a fly fishing only section upstream and lower water that a drift boat can reach; midges down to size 22 are part of the game there. Rainbows, browns and brook trout are the quarry, and browns over six pounds have come from this water. Full day floats run seven hours at $500 for one angler and $600 for two, half days four hours at $375 and $450, and three hour after work floats and wades start at $275.
