Walker River Outfitters
Bridgeport, California · Fishes East Walker River
The East Walker is the declared home water, and the outfitter says the choice was deliberate. The river runs north of Bridgeport along Highway 182 and crosses into Nevada about seven miles later for a further fifteen miles of fishing. It is a tailwater, and the guides put its quality down to feed: abundant baitfish keep the larger fish heavy, and on top of that sit strong populations of midges, mayflies and caddis. Day in and day out nymphing is the most effective method, but every season brings hatches that lift good fish to a dry fly, and streamers account for the biggest fish of the year for anglers happy to throw something large. Browns, rainbows, cutthroat, whitefish and carp all swim here. Special regulations apply and changed on 1 March 2021: the season now runs from the last Saturday in April to 15 November, with a two-fish limit at a minimum of eighteen inches, and barbs are permitted. Half days cost $350 for one rod, $425 for two and $525 for three; full days are $525, $625 and $725, with an additional charge on any private water.
