Wyoming Anglers
Casper, Wyoming · Fishes North Platte River
Wyoming Anglers runs drift boat float trips on the Grey Reef section of the North Platte, the tailwater below Grey Reef Dam that stretches roughly 36 miles above Casper and another 30 or more below it, down to the Cole Creek Bridge some 24 miles past town. The float schedule is built from short, named runs that can be combined to match flows and time of year: Grey Reef Dam to Lusby is about eight miles, Lusby to Government Bridge four, Whitetail to Sechrist ten, Bessemer Bend to Robertson Road eight, and shorter legs through Heartnet, Morad Park and Mills Bridge run one to four miles apiece. The outfit fishes the water 365 days a year, working midges through winter, baetis in spring, pale morning duns, yellow sally stoneflies, caddis and crayfish patterns through summer, and tricos and pseudos into fall. Rainbow and brown trout are the quarry. Floating is described as the most productive way to cover the river, and trips include rods, reels and terminal tackle.
