Blue Yonder Fly Fishing

Blue Yonder was established in 2007 and is run out of Taos in northern New Mexico by Joey Phillips, a native New Mexican who has guided his home waters for more than three decades and also worked the Vermejo Park Ranch, Tierra del Fuego in Argentina and Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. It deliberately carries no retail location, which is how the all-inclusive pricing is kept down, and the rate covers rods, reels, hip waders and all terminal tackle. Clients are collected from and returned to their hotel, bed and breakfast or rental at no charge, with Taos Ski Valley the one exception, and only time actually on the water is billed. There is no deposit and, in the firm’s own words, no cancellation policy. Besides the big river it guides the Rio Costilla tailwater in the Valle Vidal unit of the Carson National Forest, the Red River as a winter fishery, and the small streams near Taos including the Rio Hondo and the Rio Pueblo de Picuris. Casting lessons are sold separately at thirty dollars an hour for up to three people, and all wild fish are strictly released.
