Weatherby’s is a sporting lodge at 112 Milford Road in Grand Lake Stream, Maine, and says it has been a fly-fishing and spin-fishing destination for more than a hundred years. It keeps a staff of registered Maine guides and sells guided days across the Downeast lakes region as well as on the boundary water, together with custom fly-fishing schools, a women’s fly-fishing school, casting instruction and family fishing vacations that pair a guide with a week in the camps. Its guides also work Grand Lake Stream itself, restricted to fly fishing only since 1903 and open into late October, plus West Grand at ice-out and dozens of undeveloped Downeast lakes that hold pickerel and yellow and white perch alongside the bass. Lodging, meals and a hot shore lunch of broiled salmon, roasted chicken, potatoes and onions are all part of what the lodge sells. Reservations go through 207-796-5558.
