The Muskegon is worked from Croton Dam down to below Henning Park and all points in between, out of a nineteen foot flat bottom jet sled built by Headwater Boats and pushed by a 150 horsepower Yamaha jet, which lets the boat run the riffles and gravel bottoms that hold fish. The calendar is built around the runs: king salmon from mid September through early November, fall steelhead in October and November, winter steelhead from December to February, spring steelhead from March to mid June, and trout from May through October. The best dry fly fishing falls between May and July when the hatches are most prolific, and browns and rainbows of twelve to eighteen inches are usual with fish over twenty inches taken. Methods run to dry fly, spey swinging, nymphing and streamers on sinking tips. A full day is seven hours at $500 for one or two anglers, a half day four hours at $400, and extra anglers are $100 each. Custom tied flies and fishing gear are included, a shoreside lunch comes with the full day, and propane heaters are carried for cold weather trips.
