Because Currituck is inland water rather than ocean, a North Carolina freshwater fishing licence is required to fish the sound and to board the fishing vessel, which catches out visitors who arrive holding a coastal licence. The same operation sells two-hour crabbing charters at $325 for up to six people and two-hour eco tours at $250, so a family that does not want a full fishing day still has something to book.
