The Missoulian Angler Fly Shop

Rock Creek runs fifty two miles from the Lolo National Forest down to the Clark Fork, paralleled the whole way by Rock Creek Road, thirteen miles of it paved and thirty nine unpaved. The shop is blunt about the rule that shapes the season: you cannot fish from a boat after July 1, so floats are a spring and early summer product and wade days carry the rest of the year. The pre July floats are fast, high gradient rowing, up to twenty seven miles in eight hours, timed to the salmonfly hatch in mid to late June. The published hatch run is skwalas, blue winged olives, western march browns, salmonflies, golden stones, pale morning duns, green drakes, tan caddis, spruce moths, August tricos, mahoganies and October caddis. Half day floats, full day floats and a three day package are sold, with boat, rods, tackle, flies and a streamside lunch included.
