Sport Fish Colorado
Gunnison, Colorado · Fishes Pueblo Reservoir, Taylor Park Reservoir
Two very different bodies of water carry these trips. Lake Pueblo, the warm-water fishery inside Lake Pueblo State Park, is worked mainly for walleye: March and April are named as the trophy window for the largest fish, May through mid-July as the high-volume stretch averaging twenty to forty walleye a trip, and September and October as the return of the feeding frenzy on finesse live-bait rigs and crankbaits after August slows with peak water temperatures and the shad blossom. Smallmouth, largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, bluegill, wiper and three kinds of catfish share the reservoir. A ten-dollar daily vehicle pass is needed to enter the park, and clients may keep five walleye of eighteen inches or better with only one over twenty-one, everything above twenty-four inches going back. Taylor Reservoir, the alpine impoundment in Gunnison County just north of Almont, fishes May to October from the boat and mid-December to March through the ice, where lake trout of thirty to forty inches, northern pike and fast rainbow action are the draw. Every booking covers the vessel, the guiding and all terminal tackle.
