First Bite Guide Service
Acworth, Georgia · Fishes Carters Lake, Lake Allatoona
Trips run on Lake Allatoona out of Galts Ferry, Blockhouse and Victoria Landing, with the ramp assigned at booking. Linesides are the year-round quarry. March through May the fish push up the creeks to spawn; June to August they slide deep and hold along the thermocline with an early topwater window at first light; September through November brings an aggressive pre-winter feed, and December through February is slower but steady. Prime holding water is 22 to 26 feet off channel edges, points and humps, with Kellogg Creek and Tanyard Creek among the productive arms. Live threadfin or gizzard shad on a No. 2 hook behind a Carolina rig and a six-foot fluorocarbon leader is the staple, with paired umbrella rigs trolled through feeding schools. Carters Lake is run as the trophy day, where stripers over 20 pounds are more common and spotted bass go one to four pounds. Half days are four hours, full days six, and the Carters run five. Rods, reels, lures, live bait and electronics are supplied; anglers bring a licence and their own food.
