Yakutat Lodge floats about fourteen miles of the Situk River through old-growth Tongass National Forest, water that holds the largest wild-stock steelhead population in Alaska. Steelhead run April and May, peaking between the fifteenth of April and the seventh of May and averaging around ten pounds, with twenty-pounders taken every year; that fishery is catch and release, and anglers on a guided float can expect several hook-ups in a day, with double-figure days within reach for the experienced. From June through October the river teems with king, sockeye, pink and silver salmon, sockeye late June into July, pinks late July into early August and silvers August through October, while Dolly Varden and rainbows are available from April to December.
