WorldCast Anglers

Victor, Idaho · Fishes Henrys Fork, Snake River, South Fork Snake River, Teton River

The Henry’s Fork is guided in pieces, and WorldCast Anglers describes each of them. Box Canyon below Island Park Reservoir is fast, boulder strewn pocket water fished hard for rainbow trout. Last Chance and the Railroad Ranch downstream are the sight fishing reaches, where anglers pick out individual risers rather than cover water. Below Lower Mesa Falls toward Ashton the river turns to riffles and rapids and brown trout join the rainbows, and the tailwater from Vernon down to St. Anthony carries the fishing further still. The insect calendar runs long: blue winged olives, midges, and caddis in the shoulder months on the lower reaches, then the earliest salmonfly emergence in the Yellowstone ecosystem, which starts near St. Anthony in May and works upstream. Mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, and terrestrials appear somewhere in the system through the warm months. Float days, wade days, and overnight trips are all on the schedule.

The Teton River in Idaho is guided too, and the outfitter names three separate pieces of it. The upper Teton is a twenty-five mile spring creek reach of meadow water through Teton Valley, fished on foot. The Teton Slide and Spring Hollow reach drops a thousand feet through a canyon, with intricate seams broken by short whitewater drops. The old dam and lower river give twelve miles of runs and deep pools floated from drift boats. The season runs June through October over stoneflies, green and grey drakes, pale morning duns, caddis, callibaetis and trico and baetis, with hoppers late, for Yellowstone cutthroat, rainbow and brook trout.
