Alaska Fishing with Mark Glassmaker
Soldotna, Alaska · Fishes Kenai River
This operation fishes the Kenai River, all 82 miles of it, split into three working sections. The upper river from Cooper Landing to Skilak Lake, about twenty miles, is drift boat water fished for trout. The middle river from Skilak Lake down to Soldotna, another twenty miles, produces rainbows and Dolly Varden with salmon showing at times. The lower river from Soldotna to Cook Inlet is where kings, sockeye, and silvers are taken. Custom 24 foot Willie boats handle the powered work. The calendar follows the runs: kings in May through early July, sockeye from June into August with a July peak, silvers August into October peaking in September, pinks in August of even numbered years, rainbows and Dolly Varden June through October and best in September and October, and steelhead in September and October. Half day and full day charters are both booked, with rods, reels, tackle, bait, safety gear, and fish cleaning and processing included.
