Forks, Washington · Fishes Bogachiel River, Hoh River
The Hoh is one of four rivers fished out of Forks here, alongside the Sol Duc, the Bogachiel and the Calawah, all four named on the company’s own pages as synonymous with world-class steelhead fishing. A day is eight hours of fully guided river fishing from a heated Willie drift boat or an AIRE raft, with rods, reels, flies and gear supplied and the turn-around covered; two anglers pay $600 and three pay $750, plus tax. Across the seasons the quarry is trophy-class winter steelhead, spring kings, summer steelhead, summer and fall kings, coho, sockeye and cutthroat, worked with dry flies and streamers on light single-handers or swung for summer fish.
The river is known for large runs of hatchery winter steelhead and carries good numbers of wild steelhead and fall salmon; it has easy wading and smooth flows, was built for the fly rod, and floats easily in the lower stretches, which the business calls a good place for new rowers to learn the ropes. Summer steelhead are in the system as well, and cutthroat are a late-summer and early-fall favorite on a 5 or 6 weight. It swings well for wild steelhead with a spey rod and fishes well with any other technique an angler cares to use.
