Yakutat’s Situk Inn
Yakutat, Alaska · Fishes Situk River
The Situk Inn fishes the Situk and the Ahrnklin with what it describes as the area’s only jet-motor boats, plus drift boats for floating, and motorised boats can also be rented for a self-guided day. The year starts with spring steelhead from mid-March to the end of May, which the operation rates as premium natural-run fishing. Sockeye and king salmon arrive in the first week of June and hold through July; August is a mixed bag of sockeye, pinks, Dolly Varden, rainbow trout and early silvers; silvers dominate from September to mid-October; and winter steelhead run from mid-October through to roughly Thanksgiving. The catch is filleted, vacuum packed and hard frozen before it travels.
